Rhubarb - An Animated Film

Rhubarb was lovingly and painstakingly handcrafted in about five months time. I started the project back in May 2007, and worked on it until the end of August 2007, at which point I ran out of patience. As the beginning of September rolled by, I stopped working on the film entirely. By this time, I had roughly two and a half minutes of footage, and no clue how to continue the story line. I let the film sit for a little less than a year before sketching out the second half of the story board. At the end of April 2008, I got my ideas onto paper, and cranked out the final three minutes and ten seconds of footage in about four weeks.

In the end, 170 8.5 x 11 in. drawings were used to make the film, along with a dozen Sharpie markers.

Iron Road

I have completed animated footage which will be part of a music video by Tremble and Shake. The name of the song is "Iron Road," and can be heard on the band's myspace page. The music video is still in production, but I will post a link to it as soon as I can.

The footage was completed in 52 hours. It consists of 226 separate drawings that were scanned into the computer and run through an editing program that displays each drawing for a tenth of a second before moving on to the next drawing. The final cut of the footage is 42 seconds long. That's about 1 hr 14 min. of drawing/editing for 1 second of footage!

A Post-it Note Film

A Post-it Note Film is a short film that I worked on during the summer and autumn of 2005. Using around 770 post-it notes, the 2 min 30 sec film took about 6 months to complete. Each post-it was hand drawn, scanned into the computer, and pasted into an editing program that displays them for a tenth of a second before moving on to the next frame. In other words, one second equals ten frames (ten drawings). Some frames took around 5 min to draw, others like the one at the top took more like 30 min. That's five hours of drawing for one second of footage. The film went on to win a regional (Minnesota) gold award, and a national silver medal in the Scholastic Art Awards.
